Comparative study of photo-induced variations of X-ray diffraction and refractive index in photo-thermo-refractive glass

چکیده
Spontaneous and photo-induced crystallization have been investigated in fluorinated silicate glass by means of X-ray diffraction and optical interferometry. This glass is a photo-sensitive material for high-efficiency phase volume hologram recording. Variations of a refractive index in this glass are controlled by UV irradiation followed by a thermal development which is photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) process. A method of discrimination of weak narrow crystalline lines from a broad diffractive pattern of a vitreous material was developed, and quantitative measurements of small concentrations of crystalline phase in glass matrix were performed. The sensitivity of the method was about 0.01 wt% of crystalline phase of NaF in a silicate glass. This crystalline phase with concentration below 0.1 wt% was detected even in a highly transparent PTR glass with a modified refractive index produced by PTR processing. A correlation between the intensity of X-ray diffraction peaks of NaF and the induced refractive index was found in equally developed PTR glass samples exposed to different dosages of UV radiation. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Gradient of refractive index (GRIN) effect in photo-thermo-refractive glass
Photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass is a photosensitive multicomponent silicate glass containing photosensitive agents such as cerium and silver. Photoinduced crystalline phase precipitation results in refractive index variations in exposed areas of PTR glass, which has been successfully used for phase hologram recording. Photosensitivity being the result of the partial absorption of the exposi...
متن کاملEffect of the refractive index change kinetics of photosensitive materials on the diffraction efficiency of reflecting Bragg gratings.
Experimental and modeled dependencies of the induced refractive index on dosage of UV exposure in photo-thermo-refractive glass for different thermal treatment regimes are presented. Resulting spatial profiles of refractive index modulation in a reflecting Bragg grating recorded by a holographic technique are computed, and corresponding diffraction efficiencies are modeled. It is shown that non...
متن کاملBinary volume phase masks in photo-thermo-refractive glass.
Permanent binary phase masks with planar surfaces and high tolerance to laser radiation are recorded in the volume of photo-thermo-refractive glass using the contact copying technique and binary amplitude master masks. Conversion of a Gaussian beam to higher order modes is shown.
متن کاملMechanisms and kinetics of short pulse laser-induced destruction of silver-containing nanoparticles in multicomponent silicate photo-thermo-refractive glass.
Photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glass is a photosensitive multi-component silicate glass that is commercially used for the recording of volume holographic elements and finds many applications in advanced laser systems. Refractive index decrement in this glass is observed after UV exposure followed by thermal development. This procedure also causes the appearance of Ag-containing particles that ca...
متن کاملUltranarrow bandwidth moiré reflecting Bragg gratings recorded in photo-thermo-refractive glass.
An experimental demonstration of a moiré reflecting Bragg grating in photo-thermo-refractive glass is carried out. This narrowband filter is obtained by the recording of two reflecting Bragg gratings with different periods. Filters with central wavelength at 1550 nm, bandwidth of 50 pm, and transmission higher than 95% are demonstrated. The methods to decrease bandwidth to 1 pm are finally inve...
